Teach Children in Schools on the Island of Borneo
Teach in a rural(ish) village on the island of Borneo in the South China Sea. You'll teach in a primary and secondary school in Tamparuli, about an hour from Kota Kinabalu.
English is taught in all schools, but in rural areas the children have no opportunity to speak the language outside the classroom, so they get very little practice in pronunciation and speech. Their exposure to you is very beneficial to them and helps them raise their grades, which is a big plus given that in the rural areas, the passing rate of English is only 60%.

I honestly cannot praise this placement enough so anything else I can do for you, please just yell. Thank you so much for letting me do this, I have loved every second of it. Katie Walley

Life is wonderful and job satisfaction immense!! My first 9 day rotation is in the outdoor nursery, looking after the 3-7yr olds, equivalent to truculent teenagers - full of hormones, who really don't want to do as they are told. These teenagers are being prepared for release, and so it's rather 'tough love', we are discouraged from contact and are actively encouraging independence.

We took them to the jungle gym today. It was incredible to see them climbing to great heights with not a backward glance or trace of fear. It's all the more amazing as these youngsters have been orphaned at ages of no more than a few months and have not benefited from their mother's tuition. Debbie Mayne on her placement at Sepilok orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre
